Sandra DeGennaro served in the US Army from 1999 to 2005. During that time, she was stationed in Germany and deployed to Kosovo, then in Fort Hood and was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. As a Medic, she earned the rank of Sergeant while deployed with the 21st Combat Support Hospital. After discharge, Sandy completed school and earned her credentials as a Registered Dietitian. Her desire to continue helping her brothers and sisters in arms drove her to obtain a position at the Western New York VA Hospital where she has been since 2008.
Sandy has been a member of the VFW for about 10 years. In that time Sandy has served as trustee, adjutant, quartermaster, bar manager and bell jar manager and was elected as our very first Female Commander for the 2025-2026 year. She is looking forward to working with a great team of past Commanders and Post & Auxiliary members to support Veterans and the community during her term.
History
VFW Post 7545 was established on October 7, 1955. The Women's Auxiliary was established on February 17, 1956. The Men's Auxiliary was established in 2013. The Women's & Men's Auxiliaries merged in 2019.
The Post is also proud to be called Home of the American Legion "Band of the Tonawandas." Our award-winning concert band based in Tonawanda, NY. Formed in 1929 by World War I veterans & American Legion members.
Mission
To serve Veterans who have proudly fought in combat. Improving how our veterans are treated by citizens and the government when they return from combat. To keep the memory of all our comrades who have fought to keep our nation the land of the free, alive in our community. To serve as a place of refuge for those who have served in combat.
